Dance Academy
Philosophy

Dance Academy offers year-round instruction for families in Lone Tree, Parker, Castle Rock, Littleton, Englewood and Centennial.

Ballet, Pointe, Tap and Jazz/Hip Hop classes are for all ages.

Our relaxed atmosphere allows dancers to have fun, while learning to dance. There are no contracts, expensive costumes to purchase, or high priced ticket fees. Class sizes never exceed fourteen students. Whether you are interested in a two-year-old movement class or an advanced ballet class, we offer you our expertise, discipline and enthusiasm for dance.

Kimberly Vohs started dancing at age 4, and loved it. In High School she began assisting, and then teaching classes in Ballet, Tap, and Jazz. She majored in Business and Dance at Arizona State. From 1977-81, while in Arizona, Kim managed and taught at a local studio. After returning to Colorado she began a dance program in local day care centers called Dinky Dance, but knew that she wanted her own studio.

In 1987, Kim opened Dance Academy. "Each day with the children I see challenges, laughter, learning, and a real enjoyment of movement to music," she says, "I hope to continue offering my enthusiasm and expertise in dance."

Learn more about the types of classes taught and the required attire for those class types below.

Ballet Classes
In our pre-ballet classes, we begin with stretching in a circle. Movement songs are added to develop gross locomotion skills and create a fun, relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. We continue with basic ballet steps across the floor or in a combination. These steps are then added to a simple dance allowing dancers to perfect the steps and help their memorization skills.

Beginning and intermediate ballet classes add Barre work whether at center or on wall barres. Plies, Tendu, Ron de jambe, Frappe and Battements are highlighted. The addition of arm movements, head placement, body placement and more complex ballet steps challenge the older dancer. Combinations and dances are also taught.

Advanced ballet classes require dancers to attend at least two classes per week and include soft ballet shoes as well as toe shoe work. Placement on toe shoes is determined by the instructor.

Tap Classes
All tap lessons focus on rhythm and mastering a clear sound of basic tap steps for younger dancers. Dancers with more experience will be challenged with combinations of steps as well as arm movements, faster beats, and more-stylized dances.

Jazz Classes
All students will learn fundamental and traditional Jazz moves. Emphasis will include proper body placement for kicks, turns and leaps.

Hip Hop Classes
Students will be taught the basics of Hip Hop dancing. Some floor moves and progressions will be introduced, as well as rhythm, synchronization and how to add energy and excitement to dance moves. All music will be age appropriate. All movements will also be age appropriate and not suggestive in any manner.
